A customer in the South West of England has recently upgraded his mill mix plant from a hammer mill to a 5 tph Skiold SK5000 Disc Mill plus new horizontal mixer, conveyor & elevator.
The system is on a Pig unit and receives raw materials from BM Silos into a single screen cleaner placed above the mill.
A stepped magnet between cleaner and mill helps take out any ferrous objects before the Disc Mill grinds grain and it is then transported via a Jema auger and elevator to the 1 tonne horizontal mixer which is on load cells.
After mixing, a two way valve on the top of the elevator is swapped over to send the mixed ratio out to silos via the top conveyor.
The mill also has a reverse jet filter fitted alongside to help take away any excess air created by the rotation of the mill.
Disc Mills are renowned for their smooth and quiet operation, simple adjustment of grinding grist and lower production costs due to lower electric motor sizes compared to hammer mills.
