The Danagri – Jema heavy duty, self-emptying Dry Pit is a popular, simple and well proven concept that speeds up intake, reduces the number of trailers and drivers needed and can be set to turn off automatically once the pit is empty. It consists of a 3m wide galvanised hopper which is suspended from floor level and keeps the base of the conveyor at least 160mm away from the concrete floor. The pit can be from 3 to 15m long and has three different standard depths holding up to 60 tonnes of grain under floor plus whatever extra can be piled up on top of the pit. A rectangular hole is dug out and concrete sidewalls are built to house the hopper. Out-loading can be done by either a chain & flight or belt conveyor to move grain at 50, 60, 100 or 150 or 300tph. Access for service is made easy by the hopper being suspended so service engineers can walk comfortably under the hopper to reach the tensioning end and we offer ladders and safety guards for the access. On large farm or commercial intakes we can also offer the option of dust extraction and we supply both walk-over and drive over versions of the pit.

Capacities and dimensions

The following table shows the standard depths and lengths of Dry Pits when used with Jema chain & flight conveyors. The volumes stated are the cubic metres capacity below floor level so by adding panels around the back and sides of the pit, these capacities can be increased.
